Ghana expands student loans by 50%, cuts interest rates, and launches new tuition coverage program.
Ghana’s Students Loan Trust Fund has expanded student loan access effective November 7, 2025, increasing annual loan amounts by 50% to between GHC2,250 and GHC4,500, and launching a new “Students Loan Plus” package covering full tuition paid directly to institutions.
Interest rates were reduced from 12% compound to 6% simple during study and repayment pauses, and the E-zwich requirement was eliminated, with GCB Bank accounts now automatically created via the No Fees Stress portal.
The reforms, part of President Mahama’s Reset Agenda and the No Fees Stress Initiative, aim to improve affordability, equity, and access to higher education.
