A former NSW transport official is accused of a $343M kickback scheme, bribery, and threatening a colleague, leading to an ICAC probe.
A former Transport for NSW official, Ibrahim Helmy, is under investigation by the ICAC for allegedly running a kickback scheme that led to $343 million in contracts for nine contractors. He is accused of receiving $11.5 million in bribes, including cryptocurrency, cash, and gold, and of bypassing safety concerns raised by colleague Adele Graham to secure contracts for Protection Barriers and JC Safety. Helmy admitted to inappropriate messages, including joking about hiring a hitman for Graham, which he claimed were exaggerated. He was arrested in September after four months on the run and released after 17 days of testimony. The inquiry, Operation Wyvern, is the fourth into procurement corruption at Transport for NSW since 2019 and is set to conclude by November 21.
