A dorm fire at the University of Iowa forced a temporary evacuation but caused no injuries.
A fire early Thursday morning at Daum Residence Hall on the University of Iowa campus in Iowa City forced the temporary evacuation of about 50 students, though no injuries were reported.
The blaze, which started around 3:30 a.m. in an unoccupied dorm room, was contained by the building’s sprinkler system, preventing further spread.
Water damage affected parts of the first and second floors.
Emergency responders from multiple agencies coordinated the response, and most students were allowed to return to their rooms by late morning.
The cause remains under investigation by the University of Iowa and the Iowa City Fire Marshal’s Office.
