Alex Ovechkin became the first player in NHL history to score 900 regular-season goals, netting the milestone against the St. Louis Blues on November 6, 2025. The 40-year-old Washington Capitals forward scored 2:39 into the second period, redirecting a rebound from Jakob Chychrun past goalie Jordan Binnington. The Capitals won 6-1, ending a four-game losing streak. Binnington attempted to conceal the historic puck in his pants before it was recovered by a linesman. Ovechkin, already the NHL’s all-time leading goal scorer, has now reached 40 or more goals in 14 of his 21 seasons.
