Toronto honors WWI soldiers, including Chinese-Canadian Private Fred Lee, in a Nov. 8 reenactment.
On November 8, 2025, Toronto will host the "Walking Ghosts" tribute, reenacting the return of Canadian soldiers from World War I. Reenactors in period uniforms will march from memorials to the 48th Highlanders Memorial, honoring fallen soldiers including Private Fred Lee, a Chinese-Canadian machine gunner with no known grave.
The event, inspired by a 2016 British tribute, features participants from military, civic, and historical groups, with bagpipers in WWI attire and data cards sharing soldiers’ stories.
Organized by the Jack and Sylvia Gin Foundation and others, it aims to preserve individual memories and emphasize remembrance of human sacrifice.
