The 44th Sharjah International Book Fair opened Nov. 5, 2025, celebrating Sharjah’s 100th anniversary since its first library, featuring global publishers, cultural events, and major literary honors.
The 44th Sharjah International Book Fair opened on November 5, 2025, in the UAE, marking Sharjah’s 100th anniversary since its first library was established.
Hosted at Expo Centre Sharjah, the event features over 2,350 publishers from 118 countries and more than 1,200 cultural activities.
Greece is the Guest of Honour, with 58 publishers and 600 titles on display.
Sharjah’s ruler announced the completion of the first phase of the Comprehensive Arabic Encyclopaedia, a 44-volume project covering Islamic and linguistic sciences, with future phases expanding to include humanities and other fields by 2028.
The fair also honored Egyptian writer Mohamed Salmawy as Cultural Personality of the Year and awarded Czech scholar Dr. Ondřej Beránek the 8th Sharjah Translation Award for translating Ibn Fadlan’s journey.
Oman participated with a pavilion showcasing its literary and intellectual output.
The event, running through November 16 under the theme “Between You and a Book,” continues to serve as a major regional hub for reading, culture, and knowledge exchange.
