Terry Peate, 70, of Cockermouth, has been named Cumbria’s Local Hero by Churchill Living for founding the Linking Lives initiative, which combats loneliness by pairing isolated residents with volunteer companions.
He also organizes community projects, maintains a church hall, and received a £1,000 donation for his work.
Peter Forrest, 67, from Barrow, was highly commended for his daily litter-picking efforts.
The Local Hero Awards, launched by Churchill Living, will become an annual event recognizing impactful contributions by individuals over 60 across the UK.
