Seattle School Board picks Ben Shuldiner as next superintendent, effective early 2026.
The Seattle School Board has unanimously chosen Ben Shuldiner, current superintendent of Lansing, Michigan’s school district, as its next superintendent, following a months-long search.
Shuldiner, a veteran educator with over 25 years of experience, led Lansing’s turnaround, improving graduation rates from 62% to 88%, reversing enrollment declines, and resolving a $20 million budget gap.
He will begin in early 2026 after contract negotiations, succeeding interim superintendent Fred Podesta.
The district, facing financial challenges and community concerns, aims to stabilize leadership and improve student outcomes through school-based budgeting and community engagement.
