Petronas secures 20-year LNG deal at Canada’s Cedar project, advancing its 2028 launch.
Malaysia’s Petronas has signed a 20-year, take-or-pay agreement for 1 million tonnes per year of liquefaction capacity at the Cedar LNG project in Kitimat, British Columbia, advancing the $4-billion facility’s development.
The deal, confirmed by Pembina Pipeline Corp., provides Petronas access to a new export outlet for Canadian natural gas and supports Pembina’s goal of securing the project’s remaining capacity, with final agreements expected by year-end.
The project, a partnership between Pembina and the Haisla Nation, remains on schedule for late 2028 startup and is designed to be powered by renewable electricity, aiming to become one of the lowest carbon intensity LNG facilities globally.
