Nvidia's CEO says China is nearly catching up in AI, urging relaxed chip exports to maintain U.S. leadership.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang warned that China is closing in on the U.S. in the global AI race, citing Beijing’s energy subsidies and rapid progress as key advantages.
Speaking at the Financial Times’ Future of AI Summit, Huang said China is only "nanoseconds behind" and urged the U.S. to relax export restrictions on advanced chips to maintain its competitive edge.
He argued that blocking sales of top-tier Nvidia chips to China risks pushing the country to develop its own alternatives, ultimately harming American leadership.
Despite U.S. national security concerns and ongoing bans on advanced chip exports, Huang stressed that global developer access is critical to U.S. dominance.
