Montana’s governor donates $20,694 to a food nonprofit amid SNAP disruptions from the federal shutdown.
Montana Governor Greg Gianforte is donating a quarter of his salary—$20,694.79—to The Producer Partnership, a nonprofit that processes and distributes locally raised meat to food banks amid rising food insecurity.
The donation supports expanded operations, including processing costs and infrastructure, as SNAP benefits for about 77,000 Montanans have been disrupted by the federal government shutdown.
Since 2020, the USDA-inspected facility has delivered nearly 350,000 pounds of protein, with demand surging 36%.
Gianforte emphasized the need for Congress to restore funding and reimburse states, while praising the nonprofit’s role in connecting Montana’s agricultural community with those in need.
