A 4.5-meter crocodile known as Old Faithful, a culturally significant figure in Rinyirru National Park, was relocated over 2,000 km to Australia Zoo, sparking backlash from traditional owner Alwyn Lyall, who claims the government failed to properly consult his group and misled him about the decision.
Lyall, who learned of the move through a newspaper, said the smaller, injured crocodile captured with Old Faithful was more likely responsible for reported incidents and criticized the lack of transparency.
The government stated it followed correct procedures and considered multiple interested facilities, including Croc Country Australia, which said it had not been contacted.
