A Maharashtra cop dismissed over rape and misconduct allegations in a doctor’s death, sparking protests and a probe.
A Maharashtra police sub-inspector, Gopal Badane, accused in the October 23 death of a 28-year-old doctor in Phaltan, has been dismissed from service effective November 4, 2025, following allegations of rape and misconduct.
The doctor, found hanging in a hotel room, allegedly left a note accusing Badane and a software engineer, Prashant Bankar, of abuse.
Police initially called it a suicide, but the note triggered public outcry and a probe.
Badane’s dismissal, under Section 311(2)(b) of the Indian Constitution, cited unethical, indecent, and irresponsible conduct that damaged public trust.
A Special Investigation Team led by IPS officer Tejaswi Satpute was appointed to investigate, amid protests by medical groups demanding safety and accountability.
The case has drawn political attention, with allegations of cover-ups and delays in evidence collection, including a missing mobile phone belonging to Badane.
