A Kansas City priest, Jeremy Lillig, 44, was charged with wire fraud for allegedly using a diocese card to buy $155K in gift cards for personal use, diverting funds meant for charity.
Jeremy Lillig, 44, former executive director of the Bright Futures Fund under the Kansas City Catholic Diocese, has been charged with wire fraud for allegedly using a Diocese-issued credit card to buy $155,000 in Visa gift cards between 2017 and 2021.
Prosecutors say he diverted funds from a Kauffman Foundation grant meant for charitable purposes, using the cards for personal expenses and falsifying monthly reports to conceal the scheme.
Lillig, who also served as director of stewardship, pleaded not guilty.
A trial is scheduled for March 16, 2026.
