India's Chief Justice Gavai urges government collaboration, names Surya Kant as successor effective Nov. 24, 2025.
Chief Justice of India Bhushan Gavai stressed the need for collaboration among India’s three branches of government, calling the judiciary a public service dedicated to justice.
Speaking at a Mumbai law university event, he praised Maharashtra’s judicial infrastructure and CM Devendra Fadnavis for supporting legal education and court development.
Gavai highlighted progress in modernizing law schools and said the judiciary relies on executive cooperation.
He recommended Justice Surya Kant as his successor, who will take office on November 24, 2025, and serve until February 9, 2027.
