She recounted being punched and stamped on during a confrontation with Bayoh, a gas engineer, while responding to a reported knife threat, crediting colleagues for saving her life.
Short, now permanently disabled, emphasized race was not a factor in her actions and criticized the inquiry’s credibility after its chair and legal team resigned, calling for a new, fair, and transparent process.
She expressed distress over being portrayed negatively and stressed that officers treat any knife-related call as a serious threat.
