Former NZ cop Jevon McSkimming pleads guilty to viewing child and animal abuse material on work devices.
Former Deputy Police Commissioner Jevon McSkimming, 52, pleaded guilty in Wellington District Court to possessing child sexual exploitation and bestiality material on work-issued devices, admitting to three charges.
The offenses occurred between July 2020 and December 2024, during which he conducted thousands of searches and accessed hundreds of objectionable images, including AI-generated and cartoon depictions.
McSkimming, who resigned in May amid investigations by the Independent Police Conduct Authority and internal police probes, had held senior security roles and acknowledged bypassing police monitoring systems.
Police Commissioner Richard Chambers condemned the actions as “disgraceful,” emphasized accountability for all officers, and ordered enhanced device security and monitoring.
A sentencing date has been set for mid-December, with no public report from the IPCA due to ongoing court matters.
