Five Pacific nations' detector dog teams graduated from New Zealand training to fight transnational crime.
Five new detector dog teams from Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, and the Cook Islands have graduated from training in New Zealand, boosting regional efforts to combat transnational crime.
The eight-week program, part of the Pacific Detector Dog Programme (PDDP), aims to strengthen border security and community policing by improving detection of drugs, cash, and firearms.
Jointly managed by New Zealand Police and Customs and funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the PDDP has expanded to include French Polynesia and New Caledonia.
Graduates will now continue operational training in their home countries, enhancing the Pacific’s collective response to serious and organized crime.
