China Eastern Airlines launches first direct flight from China to South America via Auckland, starting Dec. 4.
China Eastern Airlines has launched a new intercontinental flight route connecting Shanghai, Auckland, and Buenos Aires, marking the first direct air link between China and South America.
The service, set to begin December 4, will operate twice weekly and was unveiled in Auckland with participation from government and diplomatic officials.
The route supports New Zealand’s “Southern Link” vision to strengthen Asia-Latin America ties through the South Pacific, enhancing aviation, trade, and cultural exchange.
Officials from China Eastern, Auckland Airport, and the Latin America New Zealand Business Council highlighted its role in boosting tourism, business, and people-to-people connections while reinforcing Auckland’s status as a global aviation hub.
