Belfast Harbour secures £100M deal for offshore wind jobs and infrastructure, boosting renewable energy in the Irish Sea.
A £100 million agreement between developers of the Mona and Morgan offshore wind farms and Belfast Harbour will create around 300 jobs and position the port as a key hub for renewable energy in the Irish Sea.
The D1 terminal will support construction of two wind farms planned between the Isle of Man, North Wales, and north-west England, which could generate up to three gigawatts of electricity—enough to power about three million UK households.
Work is underway to prepare the site for use by 2028, with upgrades to handle turbine components over 1,000 tonnes.
Led by German energy company EnBW and London-based JERA Nex bp, the project is backed by UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer as a major step in the nation’s clean power transition ahead of the COP30 summit.
