Zimbabwe hires Romanian coach Marian Marinica to lead national team for AFCON 2025 qualifiers.
The Zimbabwe Football Association has hired Romanian coach Marian Marinica as the new head coach of the national men's team, the Warriors, on a one-year contract.
Marinica, a 60-year-old UEFA Pro License holder with over 25 years of international experience, replaces Michael Nees after a series of poor results.
He previously led Malawi to the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations Round of 16 and guided Liberia to its highest-ever FIFA ranking in June 2024.
Marinica, who has coached clubs including Arsenal and Chelsea and national teams in Africa and South America, will begin preparations for upcoming friendlies against Algeria and Qatar, as ZIFA aims to rebuild the team ahead of AFCON 2025 qualifiers.
