A 67-year-old former South African officer faces trial for the 1985 murder of anti-apartheid activist Bathandwa Ndondo.
Gcinisiko Lamont Dandala, 67, appeared in South Africa’s Cala Magistrate’s Court on November 4, 2025, charged with the 1985 murder of anti-apartheid activist Bathandwa Ndondo, a 22-year-old student leader.
Prosecutors allege Dandala, a former Transkei Security Branch officer, abducted Ndondo with two deceased askaris and a sergeant, shooting him as he tried to flee from a vehicle.
The case, revived after decades, stems from a Truth and Reconciliation Commission investigation, and Dandala’s amnesty application was denied.
The trial is set for December 11, 2025, with the National Prosecuting Authority seeking justice for Ndondo’s family.
