William McKinley Huckaby, 42, of Leland, has pleaded guilty to death by distribution and attempted trafficking in methamphetamine in connection with the 2022 fatal fentanyl overdose of James Ray Lewis, 42.
Authorities found drug paraphernalia near Lewis’s body and uncovered text messages showing Huckaby encouraged Lewis to steal vacuums for drugs, having previously profited from similar thefts.
At arrest, Huckaby possessed about 26 grams of methamphetamine and a fentanyl dose.
He was sentenced to 76 to 104 months in prison and two years in a residential recovery program.
