Two brothers, Shane and Aaron Farrelly, were jailed in Dublin for carrying a 28-inch sword near a primary school in October 2024, with CCTV showing them and two others passing weapons in a coordinated manner.
Shane, with 43 prior convictions, received a three-year-six-month sentence with 12 months suspended; Aaron, with 72 prior convictions, got the same sentence with 18 months suspended.
A third man, Jeffrey Crowley, pleaded guilty to axe possession and was sentenced to three and a half years with 12 months suspended.
The sword was found in an apartment after a chase.
Both brothers denied involvement, citing memory issues and difficult backgrounds, while the court considered their early guilty pleas and remorse.
