New Zealand’s government has expanded support for children and youth with high and complex needs, including disabilities, through $99.784 million in funding from Budget 2024.
Over the past year, Oranga Tamariki added 59 placements across 11 community care providers, offering trauma-informed, disability-specific support such as visual schedules, communication tools, and assistance with daily routines, school access, and extracurricular activities.
The initiative aims to improve mental wellbeing, safety, behavior, and family engagement for vulnerable youth.
