Morocco has declared October 31 as "Unity Day," a national holiday to mark the UN Security Council’s adoption of Resolution 2797/2025, which backs Morocco’s autonomy plan for Western Sahara.
The move, announced by the Royal Office, recognizes the resolution as a historic milestone in Morocco’s efforts to assert sovereignty over the territory.
The holiday will be used to reaffirm national unity and territorial integrity, with the king granting pardons annually.
The Royal Speech will now be delivered on Throne Day and Parliament’s opening, though the king may speak at other times.
The 50th anniversary of the Green March will proceed without a national address from the king.
