A Medway bus driver was charged after a child on a bike was hit in a crosswalk, with the arrest stemming from his conduct post-crash.
A 69-year-old Medway school bus driver, Kenneth Benjamin, was charged with failure to stop for a person in a crosswalk and disorderly conduct after a child on a bicycle was struck in a crosswalk near a school on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred around 8 a.m. on Cassidy Lane near Francis J. Burke Memorial Elementary School.
The child, who sustained no serious injuries, was treated and released.
Benjamin, who was arrested for his conduct after the crash—including a verbal confrontation with officers and refusal to let school staff check on students—was found with a knife, though no charges were filed over the weapon.
He has been suspended from driving for the Medway School Department.
The crash itself was not the basis for the arrest.
