Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said he is prepared to personally contact former U.S. President Donald Trump if trade talks over U.S. tariffs exceeding 50% on Brazilian exports stall by the end of the COP30 climate summit in November 2025.
Lula, speaking ahead of the summit in Belem, emphasized the need for cooperation between the two nations, citing ongoing negotiations led by Vice President Geraldo Alckmin and Finance Minister Fernando Haddad.
He expressed openness to meeting Trump in Washington, New York, or Brazil.
Lula also urged Latin American countries to avoid escalating conflict in Venezuela, criticizing U.S. military actions and covert operations, and advocated for diplomacy over military intervention.
