Ireland surveys schools on ethos to guide expansion of multi-denominational education by 2030.
The Irish Department of Education has launched a national survey, open to parents, guardians, and school staff until December 16, 2025, to gather input on primary school ethos, including religious affiliation, coeducation, and Irish-medium instruction.
The survey, part of a broader effort to align school provision with modern Ireland’s diverse and increasingly secular society, aims to inform future policy and support school reconfiguration, including up to €5,000 in funding.
It follows past challenges linked to misinformation and community resistance, with officials emphasizing clear communication and privacy.
Results, expected in early 2026, will guide efforts to expand multi-denominational schools, with a goal of 250 such schools by 2030.
