Delft scientists created a drone algorithm for stable, sensor-free cargo transport in wind and obstacles.
Scientists at TU Delft have developed an algorithm enabling multiple drones to autonomously carry heavy loads using cables, adjusting positions in real time to maintain stability and orientation even in wind or with moving payloads.
The system works without sensors on the load, is fast and adaptable, and was successfully tested indoors with up to four drones navigating obstacles and simulated wind.
Researchers aim to adapt it for outdoor use, with potential applications in construction, agriculture, search and rescue, and offshore infrastructure maintenance.
The findings were published in Science Robotics.
