Craig Freeman, 63, appeared in Melbourne Magistrates Court on November 5, 2025, facing charges in connection with the 1991 death of his wife, Melinda Freeman, 26, found dead in their Whittlesea home.
Prosecutors did not detail the allegations during the brief video appearance.
Freeman, who has no prior custody record, confirmed he could hear the magistrate, did not apply for bail, and was remanded in custody due to a prior stroke requiring medical attention.
The case, reopened after an anonymous tip in 2018 and a $1 million reward offered in 2022, involves claims that Freeman returned to a ransacked home at 11:30 p.m. to find his wife’s body on the top-floor landing after leaving her alone following a family celebration.
