Colorado Mountain College passed Measure 7C, allowing higher property taxes to fund workforce training and housing.
Western Slope voters have approved Colorado Mountain College’s Measure 7C, with 71.3% in favor, allowing the college to exceed Colorado’s 5.25% annual property tax revenue cap.
The measure, passing in all eight counties of the college’s special taxing district, will fund expanded training for nurses, first responders, and skilled trades, as well as housing initiatives to retain workers in mountain communities.
The college, which relies on property taxes for about 70% of its funding, will use the revenue for 10 years, after which voters must renew it.
While no formal opposition was registered, some critics argue the statewide tax cap should apply uniformly to all local entities.
