Chinese imports of seamless pipes and tubes into India more than doubled in fiscal year 2024–25, reaching 497,000 metric tonnes, according to India’s Seamless Tube Manufacturers’ Association. The surge, attributed to alleged dumping and over-invoicing to evade duties, has undercut domestic producers despite government safeguards. Chinese goods are reportedly sold below the minimum import price of ₹85,000 per tonne, with some transactions at ₹70,000, raising concerns over job losses, underutilized domestic capacity, and risks to infrastructure integrity in critical sectors like power and oil and gas.
