AU and EU launch health cooperation in Pretoria, pledging vaccines, regulatory support, and local production.
The African Union and European Union will hold a high-level health meeting in Pretoria, South Africa, on November 5, 2025, to boost cooperation on health security, equity, and resilience ahead of major global summits.
Organized by South Africa’s Ministry of Health with support from the AU Commission, Africa CDC, the European Commission, and Belgium, the event will bring together 30 delegates from 15 countries and multiple regional and continental institutions.
Key outcomes include the donation of 215,000 vaccine doses to combat the mpox outbreak, efforts to strengthen medicine and vaccine regulatory systems across Africa, and support for South Africa’s mRNA technology hub to expand local production of critical health products.
Discussions will focus on advancing universal health coverage, sustainable health financing, and global health governance, with senior officials including Africa CDC’s Dr Jean Kaseya and the African Medicines Agency’s Dr Mimi Darko participating.
