The UKPNP rejects Pakistan’s attempt to merge PoJK and PoGB, calling it illegal and a continuation of occupation.
The United Kashmir People's National Party (UKPNP) has condemned efforts to merge Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (PoGB) into Pakistan, calling the move illegal and a continuation of occupation.
In a statement, spokesperson Sardar Nasir Aziz Khan said both regions are historically and legally part of the former princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, not Pakistan, and that Pakistan’s control stems from a 1947 invasion by tribal militias backed by its military, triggering the first Indo-Pak war.
The UKPNP asserted Pakistan has no legal authority over the areas and urged international support for the right to self-determination.
It highlighted ongoing human rights abuses, including political suppression, censorship, forced disappearances, and resource exploitation, citing reports from rights organizations.
