Two men arrested in NZ after reckless burnouts at funeral site; one charged with failing to stop, another with loss of traction.
Police in New Zealand arrested two men and seized three vehicles after a man performed burnouts in front of the crematorium at Waikumete Cemetery during a funeral on November 3, 2025. The incident, which occurred just after 2 p.m., prompted a police response that was met by attendees, some of whom climbed onto the responding vehicle, though no injuries were reported. A 52-year-old man was charged with failing to stop, and a 22-year-old man turned himself in and was charged with sustained loss of traction; his vehicle was impounded. Authorities, including a police helicopter, responded to the scene, and a third suspect remains under investigation. Waitematā West Area Commander Inspector Simon Walker condemned the act as disrespectful to mourners and the cemetery’s solemn purpose, stressing that such behavior has no place in the community and that all involved will face charges.
