Trump pushes to end NYC’s $9 congestion fee, citing economic harm, as city defends its traffic and funding successes.
On November 4, 2025, President Donald Trump renewed his push to end New York City’s congestion pricing program, which charges $9 to enter Manhattan south of 60th Street during peak hours.
He urged Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy to review the program’s termination, claiming it has harmed the city’s economy.
The program, launched in January 2025, aims to reduce traffic and fund $15 billion in transit projects, including the Hudson River tunnel.
Despite federal attempts to block it, a judge previously blocked funding cuts, and New York officials, including Governor Kathy Hochul, vowed to fight any new legal challenges, asserting the program has reduced congestion and boosted business.
