A Somali pirate attack on the Stolt Sagaland was repelled on Nov. 3, 2025, with no injuries or damage.
On November 3, 2025, the Cayman Islands-flagged chemical tanker Stolt Sagaland repelled a suspected Somali pirate attack about 330 nautical miles southeast of Mogadishu.
Four armed men in a small skiff fired AK-47-style weapons and attempted to board the vessel, prompting the crew and onboard security to respond with evasive maneuvers and return fire, forcing the attackers to retreat.
The ship’s operator confirmed all crew were safe, and no damage occurred.
Maritime authorities, including EUNAVFOR Atalanta and UKMTO, confirmed the incident as piracy, with evidence suggesting the attackers used a hijacked dhow as a mothership.
This marks the first suspected Somali piracy incident since May 2024 and part of a recent uptick in maritime threats off Somalia’s coast, prompting warnings for ships to remain vigilant and avoid the area.
