Pakistan cancels 21 LNG cargoes from Eni due to surplus from increased renewable energy use.
Pakistan has canceled 21 liquefied natural gas cargoes from Italy’s Eni for 2026 and 2027 due to a surplus caused by lower domestic demand from increased solar and hydropower use.
Only January 2026, January 2027, and December 2027 shipments will remain to meet winter needs.
The move, requested by gas distributor SNGPL, is part of broader efforts to manage oversupply, reduced local production, and discounted sales.
Eni has accepted the cancellations under contract flexibility terms.
Pakistan is also negotiating with QatarEnergy to delay or resell some cargoes, amid a significant drop in LNG imports this year despite long-term contracts covering about 120 cargoes annually.
