On October 25, 2025, the 29th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day collected 571,054 pounds of unused, expired, or unwanted medications nationwide, with 18,710 pounds gathered in the Midwest.
Coordinated by the DEA and over 4,200 law enforcement agencies, the event featured 4,317 collection sites across the U.S., including 132 in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, South Dakota, and western Illinois.
Since 2010, the program has removed over 20 million pounds of drugs from homes, reducing risks of misuse, overdose, and environmental harm.
The DEA urges the public to use year-round disposal sites—nearly 16,500 nationwide—via the “Every Day is Take Back Day” website.
