LoRaWAN’s new update triples data speeds, boosting efficiency for smart city and IoT devices.
The LoRa Alliance has released the RP2-1.0.5 specification for LoRaWAN, introducing faster data rates—15.6 kbps for SF5 and 9.4 kbps for SF6—tripling the highest speed and cutting time-on-air, which boosts energy efficiency and extends battery life for IoT devices in smart cities, homes, and industrial settings.
The update enhances network capacity, reduces interference, and supports smaller, lower-cost devices, all while maintaining compatibility with existing SF7–SF12 rates.
The changes will be showcased at the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona, Nov. 4–6, 2025.
LoRaWAN, used by over 170 mobile operators globally, remains a leading open standard for secure, low-power wide-area networks.
La nueva actualización de LoRaWAN triplica las velocidades de datos, aumentando la eficiencia para las ciudades inteligentes y los dispositivos IoT.
