LanzaJet and Fluor will build a UK SAF plant using Alcohol-to-Jet tech, cutting emissions and creating jobs.
LanzaJet has chosen Fluor Corporation to lead the FEED phase for Project Speedbird, a UK sustainable aviation fuel facility in Teesside using its Alcohol-to-Jet technology.
The plant, backed by British Airways and the UK government, will produce over 90,000 tonnes of SAF and renewable diesel annually, cutting British Airways’ CO₂ emissions by about 230,000 tonnes yearly—equivalent to 26,000 domestic flights.
It is expected to create hundreds of jobs and has received £10 million in funding from the UK’s Advanced Fuels Fund.
The project builds on LanzaJet’s existing Georgia facility and is supported by major investors including Airbus, Shell, Microsoft, and government agencies.
