Khaleda Zia, 80, returns to politics, running in 2026 Bangladesh elections alongside her son, Tarique Rahman.
Eighty-year-old Khaleda Zia, former prime minister and leader of Bangladesh’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has announced her candidacy in the upcoming February 2026 national elections, running in three constituencies.
Her son, Tarique Rahman, based in London since 2008, will also contest, following his acquittal of a major charge related to a 2004 grenade attack on former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Zia, released last year after Hasina’s ouster in a mass uprising, is making a high-profile political comeback amid a pivotal election expected to shape Bangladesh’s democratic future.
