Electric vehicle sales in Ireland hit a record high in October 2025, making up one in every three new car registrations, with battery electric vehicles rising 34% year-on-year despite an overall 9.3% drop in new car registrations. EV sales are up 38.6% year-to-date, driven by government incentives and shifting consumer preferences. While petrol cars remain most popular, hybrids and plug-in hybrids also saw strong demand. Light commercial vehicle registrations surged 41.8% in October, and used car imports more than tripled new car sales. Wexford saw a 34.9% increase in EV registrations, outpacing the national average, and reported a 2.5% rise in total new car sales.
