India launched its third PLI round for specialty steel on Nov. 4, 2025, to boost high-value steel production and cut imports.
India launched the third round of its Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for specialty steel on November 4, 2025, aiming to boost domestic production of high-value steel grades and reduce imports in defense, aerospace, and infrastructure.
The scheme, part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, offers incentives of 4% to 15% over five years starting FY 2025–26, with payments beginning in FY 2026–27.
It covers 22 specialty steel types and has already drawn Rs 43,874 crore in committed investment, with Rs 22,973 crore invested and over 13,000 jobs created.
The base year for pricing was updated to FY 2024–25.
The program supports India’s goal of reaching 300 million tonnes of crude steel capacity by 2030, driven by 11–13% annual domestic demand growth and government infrastructure projects.
Steel output rose 14.1% in September 2024 compared to the prior year.
