French taxi driver Nassim Mimun acquitted Nov. 3, 2025, in theft case over disputed 600-km trip transporting UK deputy PM David Lammy and wife.
A French taxi driver, Nassim Mimun, was acquitted on November 3, 2025, of theft charges stemming from a disputed 600-kilometer trip from northern Italy to the French Alps on April 11, 2025, transporting UK Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy and his wife.
The driver claimed Lammy, then Foreign Secretary, refused to pay €700 of the €1,550 fare and became aggressive, prompting him to take the luggage and deliver it to a police station the next day.
Prosecutors argued the delay constituted theft, but the court found insufficient evidence of intent to steal, clearing Mimun.
The UK foreign ministry denied Lammy refused to pay, stating the couple were victims.
Lammy, now justice secretary, did not attend the trial.
