Charles Coste, the world’s oldest Olympic champion, has died at age 101.
The French cyclist won gold in the men’s team pursuit at the 1948 London Olympics with teammates Serge Blusson, Fernand Decanali, and Pierre Adam, defeating Great Britain and Italy.
Born in Ollioules, France, on February 8, 1924, he became France’s national pursuit champion in 1947.
Following the death of Hungary’s Agnes Keleti in January 2025, Coste became the oldest living Olympic champion.
He carried the Olympic torch as the penultimate bearer during the 2024 Paris Games opening ceremony, passing it to judo champion Teddy Riner.
Coste passed away on October 31, 2025.
