Five Chinese nationals were killed in a Myanmar-based crime ring; five leaders sentenced to death, others given life or prison terms.
A Chinese court in Shenzhen has sentenced five people to death for leading a criminal gang in northern Myanmar that committed fraud, homicide, and other crimes, resulting in six Chinese nationals' deaths, one suicide, and multiple injuries.
The gang, based in Myanmar’s Kokang region, operated 41 compounds and engaged in telecom fraud, gambling, prostitution, human trafficking, and methamphetamine production, with illicit activities exceeding 29 billion yuan ($4 billion).
Two others received death sentences with a two-year reprieve, five were given life imprisonment, and nine received prison terms from three to 20 years, along with fines, asset confiscation, and deportation.
