FBI stopped ISIS-inspired plot to attack LGBTQ+ bars in Ferndale, Michigan, arresting five, including two 20-year-olds, during Halloween raids.
The FBI thwarted a planned terrorist attack on LGBTQ+ bars in Ferndale, Michigan, arresting five individuals including two 20-year-old men, Mohmed Ali and Majed Mahmoud, during Halloween raids. Authorities allege the suspects, inspired by ISIS, conspired to carry out a Halloween attack using high-powered weapons, after scouting locations, practicing at gun ranges, and using encrypted messages with code words like “pumpkins.” Evidence seized included AR-15-style rifles, thousands of rounds of ammunition, tactical gear, and surveillance cameras. A minor was also involved, consulting an extremist ideologue. The suspects were charged with terrorism-related offenses and remain in custody ahead of a Nov. 10 hearing. This marks the second ISIS-linked plot in the Detroit area since May. Law enforcement credited their swift response with preventing a potential tragedy, while local leaders expressed concern and reaffirmed support for the LGBTQ+ community.
