The EU’s Entry/Exit System rollout for car passengers at Dover is paused due to French delays, despite Dover’s readiness.
The rollout of the EU’s Entry/Exit System (EES) for car passengers at the Port of Dover has been paused, despite the port being ready to implement it on November 1, 2025, pending guidance from French authorities.
The system, already active for coaches, foot passengers, and freight since October 12, requires non-EU travelers, including UK citizens, to provide biometric data like fingerprints and facial scans at border checkpoints.
Officials at Dover say they need at least two weeks’ notice to prepare signage and inform travelers, as processing times could increase up to sixfold.
The EES is being phased in across the Schengen Area, with full implementation expected by April 10, 2026.
Delays stem from coordination challenges, particularly in France, where some border points remain unprepared.
